While there are many other factors contributing to an individual’s overall health, physical health is the most foundational need to live a thriving life. Access to and understanding of health care and information can be the biggest determinants in whether an individual can lead a physically healthy life.
Access to Health Care and Primary Care
Being poor continues to have correlation to poor health. Many hospitals and medical centers in urban areas continue to move to wealthier, suburban areas, and with lack of transportation hindering access to these locations, whole populations of individuals have their health on the line.
Access to health information and an individual’s capacity to use it effectively are imperative to health. Appropriate health decisions can only be made with full understanding of health issues. Navigating the healthcare system, sharing personal information and engaging in self care are all affected by health literacy.
